Meet Halle Smith

Hey there—I’m Halle, the hands and heart behind Styled by a Smith. I’m a 23-year-old Braid & Loc Specialist born and raised right here in Humboldt County, now proudly serving the community from my studio in Eureka, CA.

Why I Do What I Do

Growing up as a person of color in Humboldt, natural hair care options were nearly nonexistent. Like many others, I didn’t have access to stylists who truly understood my hair—and my mama (bless her) did what she could with mousse, heat, and a prayer. The result? Dry, damaged curls and a whole lot of trial and error.

But everything changed at the end of my freshman year of high school when I took matters into my own hands—literally. I started researching, learning from YouTube, and practicing protective styles on myself. Within a year, I’d completely transformed my hair… and unlocked a whole new passion.

Fast forward to today, and I’ve got 7 years of hands-on experience in braiding and locs. I turned my kitchen-salon hustle into a full-service business and eventually opened my own studio after graduating from Fredrick & Charles Beauty College right here in Eureka.

While the program gave me a solid foundation, it lacked real education around textured hair and braiding. That gap is exactly what inspired me to become a braid mentor—to give aspiring stylists the support, training, and guidance I wish I had when I was starting out.
